Towards a sustainable future

Our approach to sustainability is based on the premise that, through technology and innovation, we can create propositions that have a minimal environmental impact and are made in a responsible way; all while enhancing people's lives and being profitable to businesses.

For almost twenty years, sustainable development has been a pivotal factor in the Philips Design approach. In-depth research into social and environmental contexts means our solutions are genuinely relevant for specific local lifestyles and customs. And our design process is founded on thinking ahead: not just for tomorrow, but also for the next generation, and the one after that, and the one after that.

Philanthropy by Design
Since 2005, we have been working on developing humanitarian propositions that address social and environmental issues affecting the more fragile categories of our societies.

How do we do this? We leverage Philips Design’s creative expertise and socio-cultural knowledge to donate our extensive talent and skills in a program we call Philanthropy by Design. Together with unconventional partners, such as Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs), public bodies and social players with complementary expertise and values, we are working on solutions to improve the health and environment of the world’s developing societies.
