According to Darwin, those who adapt to the surrounding environment have the best chance of prospering.

We took our first tentative step more than 80 years ago, in an era when design was little more than an afterthought. Since then, we have moved with the times, anticipated change and evolved into one of the world's largest and most reputable design studios.

The far-reaching design philosophy we apply today has had a major impact on countless products and solutions both within Philips and beyond. But it too will undoubtedly alter as circumstances change. Who knows what kind of innovative design we'll be offering 80 years from now..

Philip's interest in design began in the late 1920s when the decision was taken to start the mass production of consumer goods; for the first time advertising was needed in order to reach the mass market.

The name "Concern Bureau Vormgeving" was later changed to "Concern Industrial Design Centre" (CIDC) when Norwegian, Knut Yran, took its directorship in 1969.

In 1991, Stefano Marzano succeeded Robert Blaich as Senior Director and a new era of design at Philips started with the development and introduction of a new vision and mission.
