Sydney – Royal Philips Electronics (NYSE: PHG, AEX: PHI) is proud to announce that the Aurea TV and Arcitec shaver have received an Australian International Design Mark in the 2008 Australian International Design Awards. This is the first year that the award is open for international competition, and this year also marks the 50th anniversary of rewarding design excellence in Australia.

Stephanie Watson, Manager of the Australian International Design Awards said the introduction of international products into the Awards had opened the process up to a new range of entries and designers.

“This year we have seen entries from around the world that are setting the benchmark for international design,” Ms Watson said.

An international panel of 16 judges has examined, tested and pulled apart the entries to judge the cream of Australian and international design.

Philips has also recently received major acclaim in the annual iF product design award competition, winning 27 awards in 7 categories. This is further confirmation of its people-centric design approach that integrates its deep understanding of people, society, business, and technology trends.

About the Philips products
The 42-inch Aurea 42PFL9900D from Philips features an iconic, sophisticated, and fashionable design never seen before in the consumer electronics industry. The Aurea provides an immersive home cinematic experience that will captivate the viewers’ senses, while making no compromises on technology. Hidden and fully integrated within the seductive design it features the latest innovation, guaranteeing the best in audio and visual experiences.

The Philips Arcitec RQ1095 is a revolutionary new shaving system designed for a perfectly close shave, even on the neck. The “head” and “body” of the new shaver is separated by a thin “neck” area, which offers a radical increase in control for the user. “Flex & Pivot” central drive technology allows the heads to be driven via a single shaft. Heads move separately and pivot, facilitating an up and down contour following system following the shape of the user's face.

Australian International Design Awards
The year 2008 marks 50 years of rewarding design excellence in Australia, and the transformation of the Australian Design Awards to the Australian International Design Awards. The prestige of the Awards program is reflected in the breadth and volume of entries with 159 entries across 12 categories from industry and emerging young designers, 69% of commercial entries are Australian designed and 31% are internationally designed.
