Red dot have awarded two Philips products with the coveted ‘best of the best’ product design award 2009, as well as a further six products receiving a distinction for high design quality.

SpeedXL2 Shaver

SpeedXL2 Shaver
Tested on users throughout the creation process, the Speed XL2 Shaver was designed to guarantee the best results. Triple shaving tracks offer 50% more shaving surface than traditional single track heads.  The antibacterial coating on the hair collection chamber ensures a close shave with no skin irritation.. The look and feel has received special attention - tight lines and a brushed-metal finish create a professional, solid impresion.

Kitten Scanner

Kitten Scanner
Replacing fear with understanding means children become active participants in their healthcare. Developed together with pediatric clinical psychologists, the Kitten Scanner is a miniature, imitation model of a CAT scanner using RFID tags in a toy ‘patient’ to familiarize children with the scanning process. The result is a less frightening and intimidating experience which has reduced sedation rates in children aged between 3 and 7 by one third.

Wake-up Light

Wake-up Light
Research has shown that waking up is more refreshing and energizing when it is linked to our natural biological patterns and rhythms. But to be gently nudged out of sleep, it takes relatively high levels of light. The Philips Wake-up Light has 6 times the intensity of similar products on the market. Its iconic design is deliberately subtle and unobtrusive – and it can also be used for reading.

BrightView

BrightView SPECT
The Philips BrightView SPECT is designed to combine patient friendliness, ease-of-use and an unprecedented range of motions in a compact package that is also visually appealing. All moving areas are cased in telescopic covers that hide the internal workings from view and provide safe areas of interaction with the system. Few seams and plenty of curves bring across a sense of calm, create a better user experience and reduce patient anxiety.

CX50 Ultrasound System

CX50 Ultrasound System
Patients are reassured and more comfortable when examined in their own hospital bed.This portable, high-end ultrasound system allows patients to undergo scans without leaving the comfort of their own beds. A specially designed trolley simplifies transport and also acts as a convenient stand. The large screen aids usability, while its compact appearance gives reassurance to those being examined.

The Xper patient table for cardio vascular X-ray systems ensures optimal image acquisition while allowing the clinical team to easily access the patient as well as the system user interface. Patient comfort, safety and monitoring and usability/efficiency is optimized through minimal repositioning and integrated cable management.

Designed for Trixell, a Philips joint venture company developing and producing X-ray flat panel digital detectors, the Pixium Portable 3543 is the world's first wireless digital radiographic imaging solution. Its light, compact design and WiFi connection offers healthcare professionals a greater degree of operational flexibility. It is robust and can be easily recharged by placing it in its wall-mounted docking station.

CPRmeter

CPRmeter
Medical research shows that in the event of a cardiac arrest emergency,  response staff do not always perform chest compressions according to guidelines. This CPR meter from Laerdal, co-designed with the Laerdal Design Deparment, is placed between the healthcare worker’s hand and the patient’s chest. The meter gives feedback which ensures that the correct compressions are administered to each specific patient.
