Being the biggest winner – with 8 awards – in the ‘health and care’ category, is an important recognition of our people-centric design approach in this increasingly important area.
These were for products including the kitten scanner, which helps teach children about a CAT (or CT) examination so as to reduce their anxiety of the procedure, and the CX50 portable ultrasound system, which brings high-quality diagnoses to wherever the patient happens to be.
“The iF awards are extremely prestigious," said Grant Davidson, Vice President heading Design for Healthcare at Philips Design, "and to have so many innovative healthcare products recognized in this way shows how we are using our insights and expertise to create solutions that improve people’s health and well-being.”
External market winners
In addition to the Philips winning products, two of the awards in the health and care category were for design work we carried out for other companies. The Temparin line of temporary tooth repair solutions for lost fillings, inlays and crowns was redesigned by Philips Design for DenTek. We were also involved in the development of Delmedica’s Xhalo, a reusable handheld device which gives asthmatics an indication of whether an attack is imminent by measuring the temperature of their breath.
"It's obviously great when such products are recognized as being clever and intelligent," says Gus Rodriguez, Director for External Markets at Philips Design. "Especially because the vast majority of work we do for our external clients is on a strategic level and therefore not directly visible in the public domain. This is like the icing on the cake."
The iF product design award is recognized throughout the design world and beyond. This year, more than 20 internationally-recognized jurors chose winners from a total of 2808 competing entries from 39 different countries.
