The Philips Robust Collection is a range of inspirational and desirable kitchen tools for the more discerning cook.
Philips has unveiled a new range of kitchen tools for hard-working kitchens, the Robust Collection. Each appliance is designed to deliver the utmost performance and durability within its category. The full range includes a blender, juicer, food processor, hand blender and mixer. Each product has been designed to deliver high standard results and guarantee years of durability.
“The range has been developed for individuals that enjoy cooking and appreciate having the right tools for their culinary demands,” says Lacides Marquez, Senior Creative Director at Philips Design. “At the start of the project we took a look at other premium-level kitchen tools available for use in the domestic kitchen. We found that although individual appliances were available from different brands, no complete range was available at this level of the market. The Philips Robust Collection meets this need – it is a comprehensive range of individual kitchen tools”.
A harmonized experience
Materials used were carefully selected and applied in the most appropriate way possible. The distinctively and visibly tough components and resistant finishes guarantee years of durability. “We selected materials most appropriate for the functionality that at the same time reflect the high performance users can expect from the product,” says Lacides. “Cast aluminum has been employed extensively throughout the range. It is used as a structure and is not a cosmetic finish,” he says. “But it is only used where appropriate. For example, it was not used on the hand blender as this would have compromised the experience of using the product, making it heavy and clumsy to hold.”
Great consideration has also been placed on how users interact with each appliance, ensuring that each product ‘behaves’ the way it is expected. “For example, we have used large and robust manual controls that are intuitive and highly ergonomic”, continues Lacides. “We resisted the temptation to make the user interface on each product the same, as each has their own specific requirements. Each product is an the independent member of a family”.
Efficiency and understanding
Bringing five separate products to market at exactly the same time has been no mean feat. “As part of the core team, Design was involved with the business team at an early stage of development. This created an extremely efficient workflow”, says Lacides. “It has been a quite a learning curve but has really highlighted the value design can bring to the entire process”.
