Philips Design receives 3 iF communication design awards 2009

Eindhoven, The Netherlands – Royal Philips Electronics (NYSE: PHG, AEX: PHI) is proud to announce that Philips Design will receive 3 iF communication design awards 2009. These awards validate Philips Design’s growing excellence in designing appealing online consumer experiences.

 

The awarded projects are:
- Philips Consumer website in the category digital media: Structure
- Philips Consumer website in the category digital media: Screen design
- Philips Online Shop in the category digital media: Screen design

In 2008 Philips Design redesigned the Philips consumer website (www.consumer.philips.com ) by creating a totally consumer-friendly solution, which answers the consumers needs at every step. The website is engineered to provide a seamless experience globally. The easy navigation guides consumers through the selection process. An ‘elimination tool’ enables to assist them in finding the right product. A gallery is available for all products throughout the website and allows consumers to explore each product in great depth. Since the redesign, the number of website visitors has increased by 36% to 90 million visitors a year.

 

The Philips Online Shop is a flagship experience: a complete consumer lifestyle product catalog with value added purchasing tools and a shopping experience that addresses the demanding needs of users. The site reduces click counts via a robust visual navigation tool on the homepage, which quickly helps navigate users to the product they are looking for. ‘Product advisor tools’ select products based on user specific needs, while the ‘compare tool’ can be used to highlight the features that are different across selected products. The online shop is already live in the UK, US, The Netherlands, France and other European countries.

 

“We aim to develop the optimum online consumer experience,” says Han Toebast, Senior Design Manager at Philips Design. "For example, if someone wants to buy a TV or a shaver, how many steps should they have to take? How can we make it as straightforward as possible? And what if they have a complaint after buying it - how can we help them in the most effective way? This really helped us design from the user perspective."

 

About the award
The iF communication design award represents a cross-section that is reflective of the current state of design. The focal points for the jury’s assessment include animation, atmosphere, interface, screen design, typography, sound, photography, product communication, image, sales promotion and corporate publishing, within the project category being judged.

 

The 2009 iF communication design award competition attracted 1,368 projects from 24 different countries. The awards ceremony will take place at the BMW Welt in Munich on August 28, 2009 where 30 iF Gold awards will be announced and presented.
