 Eindhoven – Today, Stefano Marzano, CEO and Chief Creative Director at Philips Design will receive an honorary degree from the University Sapienza of Roma. Marzano currently holds a doctorate in Architecture that he received in 1978 from the Milan Polytechnic Institute. During the ceremony on the 10th of April, the University Sapienza will organize a cerimonia di consegna graduation ceremony where professors of the faculty of design will present their thoughts and ideas on the role of design on the 21st century. Marzano will give a lectio magistralis where he will give insights in his work in the past 15 years.
In addition to his responsibilities at Philips, Stefano Marzano takes a keen interest in design education. For many years, he was Professor at the Domus Academy in Milan and a member of the Academy’s Strategic Board, and in 1999-2001 he was a Visiting Professor in the Faculty of Design of the Milan Polytechnic Institute. Marzano was instrumental in helping to set up the Faculty of Industrial Design at the Technical University in Eindhoven, The Netherlands, where he currently chairs the Supervisory Board. He is also on the Advisory Council of the Design Management Institute and Design London (which unifies the Royal college of Art, the Imperial College London and the Imperial’s Tanaka Business School). He is a regular juror for international design competitions.
In addition to the graduation ceremony, there will be a small exhibit open for general public that gives a retrospective on the work of Marzano at Philips Design over the past 15 years. The exhibition will be in front of the Aula Magna’s (Classroom Magna) entrance. The Classroom Magna is into the City University La Sapienza, Piazzale Aldo Moro n°5 - Rome.
